The number of jobs available in the federal government’s job hunting program has more than doubled to more than 20,000, according to the Government’s job search website.
A further 15,000 new positions were created by government departments, as well as businesses, which includes a number of high-profile businesses that have announced they are expanding their workforce.
“This is a real boost to job creation, particularly in the agriculture sector,” Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said in a statement on Monday.
The Government’s Jobs and Prosperity Coalition said the figures showed it was not just the agriculture and forestry sectors that were hiring workers, but also the service sectors such as health and education.
“The Government has been taking action to attract and retain good, hard-working people to its economy and this is another step in the right direction,” the statement said.
“It is encouraging that many of these job opportunities are still available.”
Mr Turnbull said the Government was targeting jobs that were high demand, such as those in agriculture, health and social services, tourism, education and recreation.
“We want to make sure we have the most effective and skilled workforce possible,” he said.
