Full- and part-time employment opportunities are scarce in many parts of the country, but employers need to ensure that job seekers are well-qualified and able to meet the demands of the economy, according to a new job hunting guide from JobServe.
The new guide also says employers should look for applicants who have the right experience and are flexible with working hours.
It urges employers to look for job seekers who have experience working with students or those who have been part of a team to help manage a complex project.
The guide also recommends employers look for someone with experience working in different locations, but it warns that they should not take people with previous experience working for a client as a stand-in for someone who will be more qualified.
The document also recommends that employers look at job seekers with a history of being involved with a team, having at least a three-year degree, and having experience working closely with people in a variety of disciplines, such as health, finance, law, technology and marketing.
The JobSite.com guide was released in a bid to improve the way employers assess job seekers.
It comes amid a debate about the future of the human resource workforce and the impact that job hunting can have on employers.
“A lot of employers are looking at what are the best candidates for a particular role and the best job seekers,” said David Moberg, chief operating officer of JobSites.com.
“And they are finding that they are getting quite a bit of candidates who aren’t qualified.”
While the guide recommends employers should find candidates with at least two years of experience in a certain discipline, it also suggests the government should look at whether a job seeker should be considered for a higher level of work experience.
For example, the guide says employers may want to consider an applicant who is working on a project with clients or who has at least five years of relevant experience working as a consultant.
Moberg says the guide also offers a guide to how employers can use the skills of job seekers in their marketing and recruitment efforts.
It says employers can apply to JobSITE.com for job hunting assistance through the Department of Employment, Workforce Development, and Employment Services.
To receive help applying for job searches, applicants can use JobSender.com or fill out a free Job Search Inquiry form at jobseeker.org.
In addition, JobSource.com provides a free website tool for job hunters to find out if a specific employer is looking for a specific job candidate.
